Mission
Statement
The New Mexico Hispanic Medical Association was founded in 1989.
Its goals are to:
- Provide scholarships to underrepresented medical students at the
University of New Mexico School of Medicine through the Alonso Atencio
Scholarship Fund.
- Provide continuing medical education to physicians in New Mexico.
- Encourage collegiality among Hispanic and other
physicians
throughout New Mexico.
- Advocate for the medical needs of Hispanic and other
medically
under-served New Mexicans.
- Encourage and support the careers of Hispanic physicians
in
medical academia and research.
- Serve as role models and facilitators for Hispanic and
other
youth interested in careers in medicine.
- To create access to healthcare for all New Mexicans
- To increase the number of Hispanic physicians in the State of New
Mexico
